Nabadiganta gets a new chairman

KOLKATA, 6 AUG.: In an unprecedented move a bureaucrat, the secretary municipal affairs department, Mr Alapan Bandyopadhyay, today took oath as the chairman of the Naba Diganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) with Mr Sujit Bose, MLA Bidhannagar, taking over as the vice-chairman of the authority.
Shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Bandopadhyay held a meeting with the members of the new committee and discussed various problems the industrial township in Sector V of Salt Lake grappled with.
The new chairman said all the committee members are yet to get official letters of their appointment and once they receive the letters by Tuesday, another meeting would be called in a span of 7-10 days.
He said improvement of road conditions tops the list of his priorities for development. Drinking water project, a central parking arrangement or parkomat, a central food court and a solid waste management system would be focused on with the new committee taking over.
An area has been identified in Sector V for the parkomat and the urban development minister, Mr Firhad Hakim, has been talking to the transport minister, Mr Subrata Bakshi, for the construction of the facility that would solve a number of problems related to traffic.
The former chairman, Mr SA Ahmed, had resigned from the post of chairman of NDITA in the month of May this year and the authority had been running without a chairman and a vice chairman since then.
